Therapist

Hello — I’m Katie Dedic, and I provide therapy both in person at our Bolingbrook office and through online/virtual therapy across Illinois. I work with children, adolescents, and adults, and I also support clients through individual therapy, group therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy, depending on each person’s needs and goals.

My clinical style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care. I believe therapy should feel both supportive and practical — a space where you can explore what’s been weighing on you, build skills that genuinely help, and gain clarity about what you want moving forward.

Katie at a Glance

I work best with clients navigating:

  • ADHD and executive functioning challenges
  • Trauma and trauma-related symptoms
  • Self-esteem and identity development
  • Peer relationship issues and social stress
  • LGBTQ+ affirming care and identity exploration

I offer:

  • In-person therapy in Bolingbrook
  • Online therapy and virtual counseling across Illinois

My Approach to Therapy

When you begin therapy with me — whether in person or through online therapy — my goal is to create a space that feels safe, respectful, and collaborative. Therapy isn’t about being “perfect” or having everything figured out. It’s about building understanding, strengthening coping skills, and creating meaningful change over time.

My approach is client-centered and tailored to each individual. Some clients prefer structured, skills-based therapy; others need space to process emotions, experiences, and identity. Many benefit from both. I work with you to find the right balance.

Who I Work With

I work with clients across a range of ages and life circumstances, including: • Children learning how to express emotions and build confidence

  • Adolescents navigating friendships, self-esteem, academic pressure, and identity development
  • Adults experiencing anxiety, mood changes, trauma symptoms, or transition-related stress • Couples and families working to improve communication, understanding, and connection

Because I’ve worked in both a high school setting and a community counseling center, I understand how stress shows up differently depending on a person’s environment, responsibilities, and developmental stage. I strive to make therapy relevant to your real life — not just something that happens in a session.

Clinical Focus & Areas of Support

My areas of focus include:

  • Anxiety and stress management
  • Depression and mood challenges
  • ADHD support (organization, motivation, emotional regulation)
  • Trauma-informed therapy
  • Self-esteem and identity development
  • Peer relationship challenges, communication, and boundaries
  • Life transitions (new roles, new environments, major changes)

I work especially well with clients who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to navigate a challenging season — and who want support that is compassionate, structured, and empowering.

Therapeutic Approaches I Use

I integrate a range of evidence-based and expressive approaches depending on the client and goals, including:

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — identifying and shifting unhelpful thoughts and patterns
  • Motivational Interviewing — supporting change in a way that respects autonomy and readiness
  • Strength-Based Therapy — identifying what’s working and building on resilience
  • Trauma-Informed Care — creating safety, stability, and choice in the therapeutic process
  • Play-Based Therapy — developmentally appropriate support for children and some adolescents
  • Expressive Art Therapy — creative processing when emotions are hard to put into words
  • Client-Centered Therapy — compassion, empathy, and collaboration at the center of care

My goal is always to match the approach to the person — not the other way around.

In-Person & Online Therapy

I provide in-person therapy in Bolingbrook and virtual therapy throughout Illinois. Online therapy can be especially helpful for clients balancing school, work, family responsibilities, or transportation barriers. As a virtual therapist, I work to ensure online sessions feel connected, supportive, and purposeful.

Whether we meet in person or online, I focus on building a steady therapeutic relationship and helping you create meaningful progress over time.

My Philosophy

I believe therapy is a space where people can feel supported while also learning the skills and tools that create real change. Everyone deserves a place where they can talk honestly, develop insight, and feel empowered to move forward — at a pace that feels right.

If you’re looking for a therapist in Bolingbrook or a virtual therapist in Illinois who offers compassionate, skills-based, and trauma-informed therapy for children, teens, and adults, I would be honored to support you.

You don’t have to do this alone — therapy can be a place to feel understood and to build a path forward.
