Therapist Brainspotting

Hello — I’m Allyson Cushing, a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) providing online/ virtual therapy to clients across Arizona, with a focus on individuals and families in and around Tucson. I work with adults navigating complex trauma, personality-related concerns, and the lasting effects of abuse, as well as military veterans and their families who are seeking understanding, stability, and healing.

My clinical work is grounded in trauma-informed care, nervous-system awareness, and deep respect for each person’s lived experience. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel safe enough to explore difficult experiences while also building skills and resilience for the future.

My Approach to Therapy

When you begin therapy with me — through online therapy — my goal is to create a space that feels safe, steady, and collaborative. Many of the clients I work with have experienced environments where safety, trust, or consistency were disrupted. Because of this, I prioritize pacing, transparency, and choice in our work together.

My approach is relational and trauma informed. I work with clients to better understand how past experiences continue to influence emotions, behaviors, and relationships in the present.  Therapy with me is not about labels or judgment — it’s about insight, healing, and strengthening your capacity for connection and self-regulation.

Brainspotting & Trauma Recovery

One of the primary modalities I use is Brainspotting, a powerful, evidence-informed approach that works directly with the brain and nervous system to process trauma and emotional distress.

Brainspotting can be especially helpful for:

  • Complex and developmental trauma
  • Survivors of abuse
  • Clients who feel “stuck” in patterns despite insight
  • Individuals who find traditional talk therapy insufficient

I integrate Brainspotting thoughtfully and collaboratively, ensuring that clients feel supported, grounded, and in control throughout the process.

Who I Work With

Many of the individuals and families I support come to therapy feeling:

  • Emotionally overwhelmed or dysregulated
  • Impacted by long-standing trauma or relational wounds
  • Struggling with intense emotions, identity, or relationships
  • Disconnected from themselves or others

I have a strong commitment to working with military veterans and their families, recognizing the unique stressors, transitions, and trauma exposure that can accompany military life. I also work closely with individuals navigating borderline personality disorder and other personality-related concerns, offering therapy that is structured, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based care.

Clinical Focus & Areas of Support

My areas of focus include:

  • Complex trauma and trauma recovery
  • Brainspotting therapy
  • Personality disorders, including BPD
  • Survivors of abuse
  • Veteran and military family support
  • Emotional regulation and relational healing

I tailor therapy to meet each client’s needs, recognizing that healing is not linear and that progress often happens in meaningful, incremental steps.

Online Therapy for Arizona & Tucson

I provide secure online therapy for clients throughout Arizona, including those living in Tucson. Virtual therapy allows accessibility and flexibility while maintaining the depth and consistency necessary for trauma-focused work. As a virtual therapist, I focus on creating a therapeutic relationship that feels connected, grounded, and supportive — even through a screen.

My Philosophy

I believe healing begins when people feel truly seen and supported. Therapy is a space to explore difficult experiences, build emotional awareness, and strengthen the capacity for connection — both with others and with yourself.

If you’re looking for a virtual therapist in Arizona, particularly in the Tucson area, who offers trauma-informed care, Brainspotting, and thoughtful support for veterans, survivors of abuse, and individuals navigating complex emotional patterns, I would be honored to work with you.
