If you’re reading this, you might be feeling a little like a frayed wire. Maybe you’ve spent your evening scrolling through parenting forums. Or perhaps you’ve sat in the car for an extra ten minutes just to breathe after a particularly tough meltdown. You love your child more than anything. But right now, you might feel like you’re losing the map to their heart.

“Is this just a phase? Am I doing something wrong? Why does it feel like I can’t reach them anymore?”

If these questions are swirling in your head, please take a deep breath. You aren’t failing. In fact, seeking support is one of the bravest things a parent can do. Parenting doesn’t come with a manual. And even if it did, every child is a completely different book. At Fash Counseling, we’re here to help you read the chapters that feel confusing or overwhelming.

Why Child Therapy Makes Sense Right Now

Life for kids in 2026 is complicated. Between school pressures, the digital world, and the general weight of growing up, children carry a lot. Sometimes, that weight shows up as anger. Other times, it looks like withdrawal, tummy aches, or trouble sleeping.

It makes perfect sense that you’re looking for help. We see you. We see the late nights and the worry. And like you, we also see the incredible potential in your child. Our Glen Ellyn office is designed to be a soft place to land. It is a judgment-free zone for both you and your child.

Research consistently shows that early intervention is key. According to the American Psychological Association, children who receive mental health support early on develop better social skills and emotional resilience (APA, 2024). We aren’t just looking to “fix” a behavior. We are looking to build a foundation that lasts a lifetime.

The Language of Play: Why We Don’t Just “Talk”

Think about the last time you tried to ask your child, “How was your day?” You probably got a “fine” or a “good.” Adults use words to process feelings. Children, however, use play. Play is their first language. It is how they make sense of a world that is often too big for them.

In our Glen Ellyn sessions, we utilize play therapy. This isn’t just “messing around” with toys. It is a structured, evidence-based approach. We use specific tools to help children act out their frustrations. They might use a dollhouse to show us what’s happening at school. Or they might use a sandbox to build a world where they finally feel in control.

It’s like testing the water before diving in. Play allows a child to approach scary feelings from a safe distance. Our therapists are experts at translating this play into healing.

Art Therapy: Expressing the Inexpressible

Sometimes, a child has a feeling that doesn’t even have a name yet. It’s just a knot in their stomach or a cloud over their head. This is where art therapy comes in.

Through drawing, painting, and sculpting, kids can move those internal clouds onto paper. There is something incredibly powerful about seeing a fear in bright red marker. Once it’s on the paper, it’s outside of them. It becomes something we can look at together. It becomes something they can change.

Art therapy bypasses the logical brain. It taps into the emotional center. It allows for a flow of expression that traditional conversation often blocks. At Fash Counseling, we provide all the supplies. Your child just needs to bring themselves.

Mindfulness for Small Humans

You’ve probably heard of mindfulness for adults. But did you know it’s a superpower for kids too? Mindfulness is simply the practice of being present. For a child with ADHD or anxiety, their mind is often in ten different places at once.

We teach children simple, fun ways to “find their center.” It might be “dragon breathing” to calm a racing heart. It might be a “five senses” game to help them stay grounded during a panic attack. These are practical tools they can take to the classroom or the soccer field.

We believe that therapy only works if you feel safe. That is why our Glen Ellyn location is intentionally inclusive. We welcome families of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. Whether your family is navigating a divorce, a move, or an identity journey, you are welcome here.

We offer a judgment-free space. You don’t have to worry about your child “misbehaving” in our office. We’ve seen it all, and we embrace it all. Our team is dedicated to making sure every person who walks through our door feels seen and respected.

In-Person Connection in Glen Ellyn

While the world has moved toward digital everything, there is something special about in-person therapy for kids. Being in a physical room allows for better connection. It allows our therapists to notice the small things, a foot tap, a change in posture, a subtle shift in mood.

Our Glen Ellyn office is cozy and inviting. It doesn’t feel like a doctor’s office. It feels like a place where growth happens. We are conveniently located for families in the western suburbs. We know your schedule is busy. That’s why we work to find times that fit your family’s life.

Meet Your Support System

We have a diverse team of professionals ready to help. Whether you are looking for support for a preschooler or a teenager, we have someone who fits.

  • Patrick Keclik works best with children and adolescents navigating emotional, behavioral, or developmental challenges.
  • Noelle Dragon brings a compassionate approach to complex family dynamics.

Each of our clinicians understands that progress is non-linear. Some weeks will feel like a massive leap forward. Other weeks might feel like a small step back. That is normal. We are here for the whole journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does child therapy take?
There is no “magic number” of sessions. Every child is different. Some families see improvement in a few months. Others prefer long-term support. We will check in with you regularly to discuss progress.

Will I be involved in the sessions?
Yes. While the child has their private space, parent involvement is crucial. We often do “parent check-ins.” We want to give you the tools to support the work we are doing in the office.

What if my child doesn’t want to go?
This is very common! “What if they hate it?” is a question many parents ask. Usually, once they realize our “office” involves games and art, the resistance fades. We focus on building a relationship first.

Is therapy expensive?
We strive to be transparent about costs. We can discuss insurance and payment options during your initial call. Investing in your child’s mental health now can prevent more costly interventions later.

Walking the Path Together

Healing is rarely a straight line. It’s more like a winding path through the woods. Some days the sun is out, and the path is clear. Other days, it’s a bit foggy. But you don’t have to walk it alone.

Our goal is to help your child find their own light. We want them to leave our office feeling more confident, more resilient, and more like themselves. Simultaneously, we want you to leave feeling like you have your map back.

Consider this your invitation to reach out. You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to be willing to ask for a little help. We are right here in Glen Ellyn, ready to grow with you.
